Untitled (Nature) Paintings
In this series of paintings and drawings, each painting uses the forms and colours of a specific, observed landscape and each drawing the forms and tones of those same slices of nature. With the focus on areas of nature that involve chaotic complexity it is sought that the imagery can breakdown due to the complexity and diversity of colours and marks, or line and tone, moving toward a visual “abstraction”. For the viewer these artworks are to teeter back and forth between representation and “abstraction”. With the imagery focus involved in them, these works seek to inspire in viewers an engagement with the beautiful and complex details of nature. The square format of these drawings and paintings, without the vertical format to portray towering trees or the horizontal format used for vast vistas, is deliberate to further the breakdown or confusing of the imagery. As is the use of “Untitled”. These are studio works using source photos taken by the artist. |
