Altardoors is a free-standing installation of eight painted doors. These paintings are an examination of contemporary Western society compared to images derived from Renaissance altarpieces and religious themes they depict. Each painted door has a Renaissance image on one side and a contemporary one on the other; This format effectively links the two images, and gives sense to the time factor of the iconography. It is traditional to paint on wooden panels, but as they are clearly doors this contradicts the traditional concepts of pictorial depth and paintings as precious, non-functional objects. Also, the act of opening doors has the viewer being intimately involved with the image.
